DO’S AND DON’TS OF SOLAR BACKUP SYSTEM
As a result of the persistent epileptic power failure, the demand for solar powered backup system has been on the rise. Here are some do’s and don’ts you need to know before you embark on solar installation.
DO’S
✅ Make sure where your solar panel will be installed is facing the south or the north depending on your geographical location, this will ensure maximum yield from the sun.
✅ Ensure the area the inverter is to be mounted is well ventilated, the inverter battery gets heated up while charging. A well ventilated environment reduces the level of heat, thus ensuring the battery’s designed life cycle.
✅ Once the battery reaches its depth of discharge, ensure that the battery is fully charged before the next cycle of discharge.
✅ Ensure to monitor the battery water level and top up with only distilled water periodically.
DON’TS
❌ Do not place solar panels where there will be a cast of shade on it such as high rise buildings or trees
❌ Do not expose the inverter to rain, water or moisture
❌ Do not attempt to use the inverter after the power stored on the battery is used up.
❌ Do not place solar panels directly on the roof ensure to leave at least ½ inch between the panel and the roof.
❌ Do not connect load that is more than 30% of the inverter’s capacity, to ensure adequate backup and the designed life of both inverter and battery.
